The Hitmen Junior Hockey Association invites Houston area hockey players to attend our “meet the coaches” May free skate to learn more about our upcoming season activities and the Hitmen advantage. There will be a parent meeting with the head coach during the skate. All meet the coaches skates held at Memorial Ice Arena.

Home to “Team Houston”, our program begins its 12th year of providing competitive development to Houston’s aspiring youth hockey players. Our common system of advanced training from U10 to U18 has produced numerous division and tournament champions, including four Texas State Championships and participation at the USA Hockey National Championship level.
For the 2013/14 Season, we have enhanced our highly regarded coaching staff to insure an even higher level of development for our players. With their combined experiences playing at the professional, collegiate, juniors, youth AAA and national championship levels, we believe that all of our players will make significant improvement in their skill levels this season.
This team will play in the DSTHL and will enter the Tier II U16 Texas State Championship Tournament regardless of the DSTHL placement. While winning a league title is one of our goals, this team’s primary focus will be on challenging for the U16 Tier II Texas State Championships.
To prepare this U16 Tier II team, Coach Marotta will be taking this team to several high level weekend /holiday tournaments as well as several high level scrimmages to assist in preparation for States. We believe this balanced approach of league games, high level tournaments and high level scrimmages will create significant skill development for all players and help the team at achieving their State championship goal.
Coach Marotta, a Master Level coach with AAA coaching experience, grew up playing AAA hockey in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. He later found success at Saint Michaels College High School, best known as a producer of NHL hockey players, and played on their Junior Buzzers team. David is a graduate of Princeton University where he captained this NCAA Division 1 team in his senior year. As a professional player in the IIHFA, he was coached by former Olympic Hockey team Coach Lou Vaio.
The players selected for this team will truly enjoy a unique opportunity to learn from Coach Marrotta’s career experiences.
In his most recent season, Coach Marotta led our U15AA team to a U16 AA SWSHS runner up finish. Coach Marotta currently oversees our Elite Player Development Clinic at the Midget level which runs thru June 20th.

To prepare this U14 team for the season, they will be attending several weekend /holiday tournaments, as well as several higher level scrimmages to assist in preparation for Silver Sticks. We believe this balanced approach of league games, tournaments and higher level scrimmages will create significant skill development for all players and will assist this team in achieving their Silver Sticks & DSTHL goals.
With his experiences as a member of a two time Michigan State Division 1 Championship team, captain of his Ferris State ACHA college team, and as a student of some of hockey’s most talented trainers, Head Coach Chris New will be focusing on creating significant personal gains for every player on his team.
In his most recent season, Coach New led our 99/98 Bantam team to a SWSHS “A” championship, and numerous tournament wins while attending AA tournaments for a balanced season. Coach New currently oversees our Elite Player Development Clinic at the Bantam level through June 20th.

With a history of competitive hockey to drawn on, Coach Rosenbaum understands the balance between development and winning.
Coach Garrett brings a background of playing AAA with Team Carolina in minor hockey, and being the first four year captain in the history of SUNY Caton NY college. While at SUNY, Garrett played 119 games, earning 70 career points and leading his team to the ECHL season championships on several occasions as well as to the semifinals of the National Junior College National Tournament his freshmen season. He plans on sharing the best practices from those organizations with his players this season.
In his most recent season, Coach Rosenbaum was the Assistant Coach of our U12AA team that was the SWSHS U12AA runner ups. He currently is the co leader of our Elite Player Development clinic at the pee wee/ squirt level.

Born and raised in Anchorage area, Powell was a key player on Tier I (AAA) teams that competed at the Tier I National Championships at the Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget Levels (2 years). His bantam team won the Tier 1 AAA National Championship.
At the age of 17 he was drafted to the Rochester Mustangs of the USJHL. Later, Powell expanded his competitive hockey experience by playing in the BCHL Junior A with his brother in Williams Lake for two years. After his Junior playing career ended, Powell moved back to Anchorage where he was assistant varsity coach and assistant Midget U-16 AAA for three years.
Powell believes hockey can be a great tool to teach kids lifelong lessons much more than sport itself. Lessons like, hard work, discipline, leadership skills, and most important being a team player. “I look forward to passing on the best practices I have learned through my competitive hockey career to Houston’s top youth players".

Coach Weninger began playing minor hockey in Calgary and saw success with the Calgary Flames AAA midgets and was a member of the top Junior A team in Canada in 1995 (Calgary Canucks). After being named rookie of the year and most valuable player of the year and playoffs in 1995, he accepted a hockey scholarship to Michigan tech where he won numerous awards including their coveted “most valuable player” award.
He was drafted in the 3rd round by the Washington Capitals, played on the WCHA All Star team and helped the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins (AHL Pittsburgh Penguins) earn their first team win in their club’s history. Prior to coming to Houston, he also served as the Goalie Coach for St.Cloud State Huskies (Div 1 WCHA mens hockey) (2003,2004 seasons)
Coach Weninger believes in creating an atmosphere that will foster player self confidence, develop high self-esteem and build a strong character. He is committed to delivering the highest possible development and competitive learning experience possible, with an emphasis on teaching sportsmanship, leadership, discipline and respect to help his players prepare for life’s competitive environment.

The Hitmen Junior Hockey Association's 2013 Elite Development Spring Program is open to all players regardless of the association that they played for last season.
This Elite Development Program is recognized for its high energy atmosphere where the sole focus is on accelerating player skill development. This program is a series of weekly clinics that focus on individual skills (power skating, stick handling, shooting, scoring strategies, body checking, and face offs), and team skills (offensive and defensive strategies, power plays, penalty killing and team building).
Our weekly clinics sessions are intense, and our players and coaching staff work very hard to create a positive learning experience for players seeking to advance to a more competitive level of play. Our clinics have been proven to not only improve our player’s skill level and speed of play, but also to improve their confidence. With proper skills and confidence, a player can succeed in any system. The weekly clinic sessions are led by our team of highly committed and experienced Hitmen Travel Coaches.
This year’s twelve week program begins April 2nd and ends on June 20th. In addition to this expanded schedule, we have also added goalie development sessions. Please bookmark this page for schedule updates and more information on this special clinic open to all Houston area hockey players.
